Steel is the most clever choice for roof decking supports, thanks to its lightness and mechanical properties.
The steel decking supports the roof elements but does not provide the weatherproofing layer. Steel grade, dimensions and zinc coating mass must be selected according to the construction regulations (European and country standards). Risk of corrosion depends on the internal atmosphere. Buildings with almost permanent condensation require a high performing coating to ensure a long life time, that classical metallic or organic coated steels can not satisfy.
Therefore, selection of the coating must be made based on the atmosphere requirements. A minimum coating mass of 275g/sqm (or equivalent) for Granite® HDX substrate For metallic finishes, Magnelis® (with a coating mass of 310g/sqm) for basic atmospheres can be selected.
